Q&A With Penny Linn Founder, Krista
We sat down with Krista, founder of Penny Linn, to chat about the exciting new collaboration with Petite Keep.
What inspired you to bring Penny Linn and Petite Keep together for this collaboration?
It was such a natural fit! Amanda on our team actually inspired the partnership because she was already using a Petite Keep to store her needlepoint projects.
It's a beautiful way to store delicate, thought-out, and expensive items. These projects hold so much value to their creators that you don't want to just throw them in a box; you want to put them in something special to preserve both the item and the memories associated with it. One of my biggest goals with Penny Linn launches is to create items that people want but don’t have easy access to. We sell everything to stitch, finish, and display a canvas, and we're so excited to now offer a custom way to store it with Petite Keep.
Needlepoint is such a rich, traditional art form, but this collaboration really highlights the heirloom aspect. What makes these types of treasured items so meaningful to you personally, and why do you think it resonates so deeply with others?
To me, my needlepoint projects signify a specific time in my life. They embody the moment and chapter you're in, whether you're stitching for a graduation, wedding, or a new baby. I can look back at canvases and I know where I was, who I stitched it for, and what was going on in my life. They're the perfect way to bring your personality at that time to a physical item that you'll have for the rest of your life. I think the idea of preserving these personal items resonates deeply with others for the same reason—these cherished pieces serve as the perfect scrapbook of your life.
We love that the Penny Linn x Petite Keep collaboration includes heirloom storage pieces that are centered around preserving precious items. What do you plan to store in your collaboration Trunk?
All of my stitched and finished Penny Linn canvases are on display in the store, but I have a bunch of canvases that aren’t on display that I’m currently storing in a plastic bin. Many of these canvases are family heirlooms that are too special to my family for me to display in the store, so I cannot wait to be able to store them safely in a Petite Keep. I’ve also purchased Trunks for my boys to store their heirloom ornaments in.
How would you recommend utilizing the Acid-Resistant Petite Pouches within a Petite Keep Trunk? Are there specific items you plan to store in yours?
The pouches are perfect for storing your most special pieces! Both the pouches and the tissue paper that comes with Petite Keep products will ensure your white and light-colored threads and fabrics don’t yellow. I will be making sure my and my son’s heirloom ornaments are safely wrapped in the tissue and pouches.
What traditions are you hoping to pass down to your children?
I would love for my children to take over Penny Linn one day, but I currently have two boys, so that may not be in the cards!
One tradition my husband and I have done every year since we started dating is taking our Christmas photos at the New York Palace Hotel in front of their tree. We’ve continued this with our boys and I’m hoping that we will do it for as long as the kids allow us!
What does it mean to you to collaborate with another female-founded, female-operated team?
It's the best feeling in the world—I think women need to run the world! I really admire Lindsay as a leader and what she has done with Petite Keep so far, and I’m proud to have Penny Linn as part of their history. Bringing our teams together for this partnership has created perfect synergy, and we are bringing something really beautiful to life. I know our Trunks, canvases, and accessories will be with our communities for generations to come.
What do you hope people feel when they open their collaboration Trunk for the first time?
I hope they feel what I feel—shock, awe, beauty, and amazement! I hope they love it as much as I do and the collection brings them as much joy and happiness as it brought us to create it. I want our community to feel the same joy they feel when they open a finished needlepoint package, stitch something for the first first time, or receive a special gift!
